Dreistufer.
1980, a colour monitor turned on its side, one rocket in three parts. If a stage is hit, the rest flies on. After every second wave you dock: touch down gently, aim precisely – and the rocket fires from every barrel. (Dreistufer is German for “three-stager”.)

Rules
- You start with stage I, stages II and III wait in reserve. If something hits you, only the stage that was hit is lost.
- After every second wave comes the docking manoeuvre: the rocket sinks onto the next reserve stage. Fire brakes, left/right steers. More than 6 pixels off or too fast means a crash landing – and the reserve stage is gone.
- Docking bonus 1,000, 2,000 or 5,000 points, doubled on the second docking. Every stage fires from its own barrels, the full rocket from five – but it is also the biggest target.
- Four enemy types taking turns, two waves each: goggle-eyes, buzzers, trigons and splitters that split in two when hit. Hitting a diving enemy scores double.
- At 30,000 points and every 50,000 after that, you get a lost stage back as a spare.
